As you know, we have been fundraising for a 2020 Covid Monument for North Sheffield to be installed in Chapeltown Park behind the outdoor gym. We are now pleased to announce that the work is finished and we had the official opening on the 9th April 2022! The opening was done by two NHS nurses who placed sprigs of flowers into the opening and having a string of garland flowers instead to be environmentally friendly.
The photo shows the stone mason, Andrew Vickers of Stoneface Creativ . The stone carvings to be done round the monument have been inspired by the winners of the design competition we held in local schools just before Christmas. The lovely stone pebbles done by the kids are also incorporated into the bench wall. There will be commemorative plaques (also with pebbles) in all the surrounding parks.
The monument is fantastic! You can sit on the bench and look down into Chapeltown through the middle opening. Also there are small holes carved into the opening for floral tributes. We think it is so important to have somewhere to sit and have a quiet time to remember those we have lost during this pandemic. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed and to our wonderful sponsors.

We are so pleased and thankful that this has been placed in Chapeltown Park.
The monument covers North Sheffield and small plaques are being placed in neighbouring parks.
The wording says:
